Acedia Press upphör (+ baltiska uniformer)

Lars-Eric Höglund har meddelat den tråkiga nyheten att han och Åke Sallnäs kommer att lägga ner verksamheten i deras förlag den 28 februari. De motiverar sitt beslut med att de båda tycker att de är för gamla för att fortsätta att driva förlaget. Så fram till slutet av februari kommer de att sälja ut lagret så långt det räcker. I fortsättningen får man sedan skicka sina bokbeställningar till Lars-Eric Höglund personligen. Så nu är det läge att skaffa deras uniformsböcker ifall man inte redan har gjort det.

Höglund meddelar också att ifall någon vill öppna förlag så är deras till salu.

Baltiska uniformer

För att fortsätta på uniformstemat så kan jag även vidarebefordra information om de estniska regementenas uniformer som jag har fått från Kalle Kroon.

Med anledning av förra veckans inlägg om den baltiska lantmilisen (en term som Kalle Kroon ogillar då han anser att dessa förband bör likställas med svenska utskrivna regementen som till exempel Östra och Västra Skånska) så kontaktade jag Kalle Kroon för att räta ut en del frågetecken. Han skickade mig en stor mängd information som har resulterat i att jag har korrigerat det förra inlägget med röd text (missa inte heller vad Bengt Nilsson har bidragit med i kommentarfältet).

Även uniformsuppgifter var inkluderat i det material som han skickade mig och det fyller igen en lucka i Höglunds bok eftersom den innehåller väldigt få uppgifter om just denna typ av förband (Jag har lagt till översättningar av de geografiska namnen längst ned:

Land dragoons of Järva county land regiment in 1701-1702
Weared also a collet given by the rote peasants from land – it was a ca 6 mm thick moose leather jacket for wearing a steel breast plate and defending somehow against sword cuts. Had flintlock muskets from 1702.

From Stockholm to Tallinn were sent grey coats with tin buttons, yellow cuffs and collar,grey breeches of cloth,black hat with button and litzguard(small piece of lace, that went from button over edge of hat into bottom of hat), grey stockings, black shoes, white cravats of line, two shirts- on of finer, one of robust line.

Was sent from Cloth Cammer(Klädkammaren), Stockholm in 1707 and weared until 1710:
Blue coat with yellow lining, tin buttons, yellow belt, blue stockings, black hat, had  also flintlock musket with bayonet and sword, black musket belt, grenadiers with grenade bags

Soldier of mayor C.J. von Hüenes garrison battalion in Tallinn(remains of Järva, Viru and Läänemaa land regiments as a chore) in 1708-1710:
Flintlock musket,sword, bayonet, sword belt of yellow chamois leather with brass buckle, leather pockets with brass rings, black hat with yellow cord of cotton, blue coats with ten buttons, gloves of chamois leather, black hair wallet of line(for covering of hair pony tail in head), black cravats, shirts of line, breeches of buckleather, blue cotton stockings, stocking ties of chamois leather with brass buckles, shoes with brass buckles.
Corporals of von Hüenes battalion – all the same, but the hat was with silver galoon.
Drummer of von Hüenes battalion – painted drum, drum belt of chamois leather and with silver galoon, drummer and flutist –  waist belt of chamois leather and silver galoon, black hat with silver galoon,blue coat with laces, gloves of chamois leather, black hair wallet of line, black cravat of line, shirt of line, breeches of buckleather, two pair of stockings- one blue, another yellow, stocking ties of camel hair with brass buckles, shoes with brass buckles, sword, and hirschfängen(short broad sword).
Non-commissioned officer of von Hüenes battalion– had a pike with cross section(Kurzgewehr) painted in blue, black hat with silver galoon, waist belt of moose leather, gloves with silver galoons, hair wallets of black line, breeches of buckleather, two pair of stockings- one blue, another yellow, shoes with brass buckles coated with silver, blue coats with tin buttons and with silver galoons around the button holes, stocking ties of white camel hair with silver-coated buckles.

Land soldier of Pärnu land battalion in 1702 – part of soldiers wore white( as grey vadmal was not accessable), part of soldiers wore grey coats. Had partly flintstone muskets in this year.

Carl von Mengdens infantry regiment (latvian land battalions of Cesis, Aluksne and Turaida as a core), accordingly to Mengdens order in 1704 –
Soldiers – blue coat with yellow lining  and tin buttons, breeches of blue cloth with line lining, one battalion had grey, another yellow stockings, cravats,shoes, Drummers had laces, Drummers, non-commissioned officers, provosts, and vebels had blue stockings. Grenadiers had grenadier caps.

Accoringly to official order:
Dragoons – breeches of leather, waistcoat of leather(reached until to knees) with brass buttons, coat of dark(NB!)grey vadmal reached until to knees after swedish manner(NB!), and with small  blue cuffs(NB!) blue laces, flat ten buttons and robust line lining, greased boots with spurs, yellow sword belt with brass buckle, black hat, black greased pocket, leather gloves, three shirts,pouch of line, flintlock musket, one pair of flintlock pistols with black pockets, carabin belt and sword.

Livonian land dragoon in 1700-1701
Accordingly to order:
Grey coat with yellow lining,grey cuffs, 12 pair of button holes with yellow laces, pockets as cuffs with three pairs of buttons decorated,  two fingers wide collar lined with yellow line, brass buttons,on the back side of coat two pair of laces without buttons, on the both shoulders a flap of the same material as coat,lined with yellow line and fasted with button. Waistcoat of leather, breeches of leather with brass buttons. A karpus of grey cloth with yellow lining and brass buttons over the top of karpus and with yellow lace and with a yellow braid in the middle of the top of karpus. A cape of grey cloth with yellow lining fasted with a hook. Two pairs of cotton gloves, stockings and socks? One pair gloves of mooseleather. Two shirts, two yellow  cravats. One pair of shoes. One pair well greased boots with falselegs, tinned spurs and round buckles. One breast patch of sheep leather (for wearing a steel breast plate, but also for a more proud apperance).
One good and strong and well shoed horse. One saddle with saddlecloth and double flaps, halter, double bridles, with two pistol pockets and runners. Saddlecloth of yellow cloth, embroided with green line cloth. Ride pocket, haversack, horse curry-comb, horse blanket, horse headsack.
A powder-horn, good flintlock musket, flintlock pistols, yellow pistol locker, three pair Flintstones, A moose leather carabin belt with hook. A good sword with yellow and green sword lace.Sword belt of moose leather, pocket with brass button. A haysack and nightcap. An ammunition pocket with big ring of brass and three fingers wide belt made of moose leather, with brass button and and backplate. One bullet pocket with belt.

Land dragoons of Saaremaa in 1704:
Land dragoon and grenadier had blue coat with yellow lining and brass buttons, blue cape with yellow lining, waistcoat of leather, breeches of leather, hat with cord, boots, spurs, saddle with flintlock pistols, ammunition pocket and flintlock musket and sword. Grenadiers had also everybody four bayonets.
Musicians: Oboe players and drummers had blue coats with laces and brass buttons and yellow lining, leather breeches, hat with cord, boots, spurs, and two cravats- one white, one black.A saddle with pistols
Non-commissioned officers had blue coat with silver-plated buttons and button holes trimmed with camel hair. Leather breeches, hat with silver galoon, boots, spurs, stockings, cravats, leather gloves, saddle with pistols, belt with silver-plated buckle, flintlock musket, ammunition pocket.

    Ett par smärre detaljer:

    När det gäller källan för Oberapahlen/Pöltsamaa bataljon ska det nog vara Skytte till Schlippenbach den 23 oktober. Datumet den 19 oktober kommer från ett av Matthias Grabben undertecknat förslag över bataljonen, vilket ligger som bilaga.

    Även noten till Wolmar/Valmiera torde vara inexakt. LVVA, fond 7349, op. 3, vol. 62 innehåller förvisso en mängd handlingar rörande lantmilisen, men inga så sena som 1703 (med reservation för en del odaterade handlingar). Det utpekade memorialet, daterat 8 september 1703, torde istället vara identiskt med en handling i Fond 7349, op. 1, vol. 310 (s. 154).

    Det finns en del skäligen detaljerade beskrivningar av uniformer:

    ”Ein grau Wadmallsrock auf Soldatenart gemachet mit gelben Kragen und Aufschlägen litzen von gelben boy geschnitten, gleichfalls die Knöpfe mit gelben boy überzogen.

    Ein grau lackens Carbus mit gelb boy unterfutter

    Ein paar neue lederne Hosen o.s.v. (LVVA, fond 7349, op. 1, vol. 310, s. 137). Tycks vara från slutet juli/början av augusti 1702.

    Det är inte helt enkelt att säga. Enligt handlingen är munderingen utformad efter ekonomiståthållarens förordning. Den ligger i en Liphardtvolym, men tycks vara undertecknad av H. J. von Brandt och närmast höra ihop med uppgifter om soldater från godset Breslau (3 mil norr om Wolmar). Det finns ganska många brev från Brandt, skrivna i Wolmar vid ungefär samma tid.

    Den går att spåra tillbaka till ett dokument signerat av Mikael von Strokirch, daterat Riga 26 mars 1702 (samma volym, s. 87)
